ADULTS ONLY READ FIRST -RECOVERY November 18 6:35
The doctor told us he ran into a problem because of Chloe's cleft eye/cheek. Her left cheekbone was extremely funky, so he had to stop and review her x-ray. He was worried her cheekbone would fracture, which was a 70% chance of occuring. He proceded to carefully chisel the bone, and I believe due to your prayers everything went fine. When he removes the screws in 3 months, he will add bone to that cheekbone. He said on each side of her nose there are grooves that he will later have to work on. We will be turning the screws behind her ears, which will move her bones forward - yeah can't wait. As a whole, he felt the surgery was a success.
Well, this was tougher than I thought. I'm not going to candy coat this just so Chloe will know exactly what she's been through. Chloe's face looks good. You can't see the plates under her skin at this point. She has tape all around her mouth and cheeks to hold the breathing tube. She has a bandage around the crown of her head where they opened her up - from ear to ear. She has openings behind her ears where the screws are. She has blood and fluid coming from behind her ears and out her nose. When I first saw her she was coughing, and it looked so painful. She looked so distressed. The nurses said it is good for her to cough, so she is OK. I just want to hug and kiss her so bad, but I can't because of the tape and her ouchies. I keep kissing her neck. I just want to make everything OK. She is able to blink and nod to communicate. She's totally out of it. She's on a medication called versed which has sort of an amnesia affect. She will be on the breathing tube and in ICU until Monday, which means no visitors. The fears at this point are infection and brain fluid seeping out of her nose. So, please continue to pray.
All of her vital signs are super great. She has a slight fever, which is normal after surgery. I asked her if she wanted to go to school tomorrow and she shook her head no. Then, I asked her to blink if she wanted to go to Disneyland and she opened her eyes super wide. I read her all of your well wishes. We have great doctors and nurses.
Thanks, again - love you.
